The Awethu Project incubates hundreds of entrepreneurs and positively impacts the lives of thousands of people across South Africa. The aim of the Awethu Project is to make a systemic impact on the country’s economy and elevate entrepreneurs relegated to the informal sector.
The Awethu Project is one of the most innovative SMME investment companies in Africa, with dozens of programmes developed to unlock and nurture potential within South Africa’s rising entrepreneurial sector. The Project provides information and tools to those who want to start or grow a business, make more money and improve their financial situation. The development of their mobile application has exponentially extended their services to a larger market of budding business owners, who are now continuously equipped with this ‘coach on your phone’ service.

The Awethu Project mobile application provides lower LSM South Africans instant access to the tools and information that help them start and run their own business. To aid our client’s goals, we developed a number of effective built in features into the application to best facilitate the learning platform. The application has a notable visual appeal to it using convenient and easy to read display graphs that help users keep track of their monthly spend vs monthly income.
The application also makes use of instructional videos and text content to help share ideas around how users could potentially earn money in their communities. We also built in a simple point of sale (POS) system whereby users can add line items to their inventory, as well as adding the items sold to their records, all while keeping track of their stock. Amongst many other functions, the application is primarily data-free, providing users with the opportunity to record transactions, set goals and view their progress offline.
